According to the stories of the local residents, the mangan mine was opened by the British colonialists around the early 1900s under supervision of Sir Herbertsing. The exploration of the mine led to the establishment of a railway in northern Sabah in 1905 by the British Exploration Co Ltd (the earliest locomotive in North Borneo) starting from Kolumpisaan to Kg. Taritipan, Kota Marudu. However, the mine operations ceased during World War II. While the mine was operational, 80 miners consisting of Indians, Chinese and Japanese were buried inside the mine. Along the way, you can witness the geological beauty and remnants of the mine.

Taritipan Kota Marudu, namum operasi lombong berhenti semasa perang Dunia ke-2.
